hi, came across this site when learning about CI. i am 27 yrs old with a profoundly deaf 4 year old son. he was diagnosed a year and a half ago. he has hearing aids but still is not talking! quite stressful! lol your story is very influential for sure. Is a CI very noticeable at all?

Hi Alison!

I am the guy with the AB Harmony 120 just like yours which I got in January 2007. You mentioned about the redness on your ear, and I wonder whether it is the big PowerCel Plus that you're wearing that causes the redness? I've experienced some redness before from wearing the big Powercel Plus for a day. That battery is too heavy; it is rather used for spare. I switched back to PowerCel Slim and no more redness.

What strategy is your MAPs? I find myself very comfortable using HiRes-120-S for speech and music (72dB IDR). It produces very accurate to natural sounds. HiRes-120-P is too loud and noisy which I didn't like.

You also said about the sound cutting in and out. What exactly was the causes? I think It is due to the "Auto Gain" feature you might have on your MAP. It is like an automatic volume knob that turns up and down itself in real-time in responds to intensity of sound around you. It doesn't work well with HiRES-120-P as I've tried, except HiRes-120-S, as the cutting in and out is too much which causes you to miss a moment. I don't need Auto Gain anymore now as I've adapted.

Hi Sharad:

You are right. I tried one Phonak FM and they told me a price of INR 230,000. That is expensive. I don't think that you will get it lower than what was offered to you in India. However try to bring from abroad but check the warranty issue.

Good luck

I am trying to understand why I require two FM receivers MLXs FM receiver and Microlink Freedom FM receiver along with Smartlink transmitter ? Colin mentioned that he also was going to get two microlinks.

Thanks -Uday

Thanks for reply.
I am still looking to purchase smartlink SX of Phonak and 2 receivers, but unable to find the right seller (I mean offering it at reasonable price).
Please tell me a seller offering it at lowest price.
Thank you.

Dead batteries. I can't imagine how crazy the technology is. I'm amazed every day at my kid's hearing aids....

Thanks for encouraging thought about the complexities of a CI.

Hi,
Here a couple of sites that have the Smartlink on sale.
http://www.hearing-loss-help-co.com/index1.html?2371.html&1

http://www.google.com/products?sourceid=ie7&q=microlink+Freedom+price&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7ASUS_enNZ312&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=D7b-SfiwCZzytAPJ8tzVAQ&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

http://yourhearing.net/store/proddetail.php?prod=smartlink-sx

Maybe you have already purchased one. I would be keen to know how you are going with it. Please visit my blog and tell me. I getting two Microlink Freedom's and a Smartlink SX next week and will be posting my expierences with it. It will also have an interface for our home phone so I just pick up a caller ID phone, my brain programs itself for the caller and the unit will transmit FM directly to my implants. Cheers Colin
